ORGANIC-FARMING Concord has traditionally been home to thousands of acres of fertile farmland, serving as a bread basket to the city of Boston. Concord is the home of the Concord grape (developed by Ephriam Wales Bull), and Welch's is headquartered here, as well. Over the last few decades, given it's proximity to Boston and the beauty of it's land and open fields, the town's real estate has become quite valuable. Many of it's small farms have given way to building and construction. It has lost some of it's rural character and heritage. Still, there remain a handful of farms that are family owned and operated, and which continue to operate as ongoing businesses. These farms are still producing fresh and organic fruits and vegetables, as well as prepared foods and pastries. The good old farmstand is alive and well in Concord, likely run by the great grandchildren of the original founders.
